08:34 pm - Have You Seen Me Lately?
I've been as sick as a dog for the past two weeks. That's where I've been.
I don't recommend it.

Via Shake Your Fist:
I thought I knew everything. That was pretty comfortable. There is something attractive about that. By the same token, it is kind of one-dimensional! It's interesting to get middle aged. There's more advantages than disadvantages. The disadvantages are pretty minor. Every period or stage has its own pros and cons about it. You know what's the annoying thing? You're always a little bit behind figuring out where you are. It's like you never catch up to where you are. You're actually trying to figure out where you are now. You're never quite there but you're someplace else by the time you figure it out.

11:38 pm - Catch me on WCNI tomorrow...
Just a quick note to say that I'll be DJing on WCNI tomorrow (Thursday) morning. There's a live audio stream available via the web site, so tune in between 9 AM and Noon and see what I play. I dunno. I'm thinking I'll just play some of my recent favorite songs or something. Depends what I have for breakfast.

I used to think I owned only 1,000 books.
I've now entered over 1,000 books in my LibraryThing catalog, and I can't have entered much more than half...
I've weeded a couple dozen out of my collection this year, but I think it's time to part with some of my old computer books. Maybe I can give away some of my old but not-really-obsolete UNIX books. I couldn't bear to throw them away, and a bookstore wouldn't understand that a UNIX book from the 80s is still a good book. Time to find my nifty Bookcrossing stickers...
I hit the Book Barn on the way back from New Haven yesterday. I didn't spend much, but I spent more than I should have. I scored a book with Blixa Bargeld's lyrics that I didn't even know existed!

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your Livejournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.No particular seven of mine, in no particular order:
- Your Ex-Lover Is Dead - Stars
- So Much Trouble - Matt Pond PA
- All My Wasted Days - The Amazing Pilots
- I Wanna Know Girls - Portastatic
- Wrapped Up in Books - Belle and Sebastian
- Vanessa from Queens - Stephen Malkmus
- Bridges and Balloons - Joanna Newsom
I suppose I could probably think of seven more I'm equally into at the moment, except for the Stars track, which I just listened to about two dozen times in the past 24 hours.
I want to see what songs
altamont,
dialogue_mono,
kbuxton,
notophelia,
rocketdays, and
simpsojl pick...

All hail LibraryThing! I've started cataloging my collection. Eventually I'll move my wishlist, favorite books lists, and that sort of thing there. Try it; it's fun!
Like rateyourmusic, it has a CSV export function, so you can take your data with you. That's very high on my list of requirements for a site of that nature.

I've been having trouble staying awake this week. Even the green tea wasn't helping, and I've been digging into my punk and metal CDs to keep me going...
I just noticed the tiny little print on the box of green tea: "naturally deccaffeinated". M*****F******! Bad enough they had to go add weird shit to the tea; they took out the freakin' caffeine, too?!? What is the world coming to...
I just made myself a nice cup of high-voltage chai tea, despite my lack of soy milk, and ripped Anthrax's Among the Living. That'll fix it!
